GRBL 1.1 Alarm 5

GRBL 1.1AlarmPosition is kept

The probe moved its full distance and never touched the plate.

Position is kept. The probe move ended normally; it just didn't find contact. (Hamrun's reading)
What to do
  1. Check the plate is under the bit and the clip is on the bit (or the collet).
  2. Start the probe closer to the plate, or give it a longer probing distance.
  3. Touch the clip to the plate by hand and see whether the probe light changes. If it doesn't, check the probe wiring.
Official GRBL 1.1 message: “Probe fail. Probe did not contact the workpiece within the programmed travel for G38.2 and G38.4.” source

Got a different message?

Paste it into the decoder. Hamrun's editor checks your G-code before you run it, so a toolpath that leaves the machine's travel or a missing feed rate is caught before the machine stops.
